HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

The Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course is delivered over two hours, and includes online pre-course learning. It’s also the first component of the Provide First Aid course, but unless you’re enrolled in that course you’ll leave once you’ve completed this component.

Learning resuscitation skills or renewing your CPR certificate Mater Education offers you the nationally recognised HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This CPR course provides training in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

Learning Outcome

You’ll gain the skills and knowledge you need to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

When you successfully complete this Nationally Recognised Training you’ll receive a Statement of Attainment for the unit HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation.


Your assessment will include a mix of multiple-choice questions, role play and physically demonstrating CPR using a model of the human body (resuscitation manikin).

You must be able to demonstrate uninterrupted CPR on both adult and infant resuscitation manikins placed on the floor. So you should wear comfortable clothing when attending the course.

Duration & Cost

The course runs for two hours, with pre-course reading required online.

The course costs $55 per participant.

Mater staff, Mercy partners, Mater Education students and students from university partners can claim 10% discount on tuition fees.

As part of our enrolment requirements you must:
  • be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English at a competent standard
  • be able to physically perform the act of CPR on both adult and infant resuscitation manikins placed on the floor (at least two minutes on each)
  • provide written permission from a parent or guardian (if you’re under the age of 14).
Please note, if you are enrolled or enrolling in the First Aid course you do NOT need to enrol in the CPR course.
