Mater Education over-joy-ed by the latest student feedback

Joy chose to take the first step in her Nursing career with an organisation that she’d seen continue to deliver exceptional quality and healthcare. With hundreds of nursing programs to choose from in Queensland, Mater’s history, ethos and values aligned strongly with her own values. Her decision was guided by the fact that “Mater had heart, values and history behind it”.

After working in aged care and pursuing a career in teaching for many years, when the time was right she decided to pursue nursing. In the past she had watched family receive exceptional care from nurses, specifically in palliative care, and Joy wanted to give back.

Joy said she didn’t have a hard time choosing electives and she enjoyed specialising in palliative care and mothers and babies. She went into the course knowing what she wanted to study more closely and the range that Mater Education offered would suit a variety of tasks. She jokes that she would have done “more electives if I could have!”.

As a mature aged student, Joy was unsure what would be the right fit for her to study. After visiting Mater at one of the Open Days, she was blown away by the clinical facilities and simulation learning environment. She came into the day with many questions and each one was answered by the friendly Mater Education staff.

Care and approachability from staff didn’t stop there, with Joy recalling that the entire team was very approachable. “The cohort is great, the lecturers are fantastic, I strongly encourage anyone who wants to change careers to do it”.
